Add a new dimension to your math class. Learn some strategies and tips to help your students to communicate their mathematical thinking and knowledge in concrete, pictorial and symbolic ways in the great outdoors. We will look at ways we can use our surroundings to incorporate math learning and thinking, to make connections to real-world math and to incorporate First Peoples’ perspectives. We will also examine ways to build upon student work using inquiry, assess student work and how to incorporate student self-assessment. Come prepared to be outdoors, rain or shine. The workshop is suitable for K-3, but strategies can be used in higher grades as well.

Robbi Martens and Kim Reynaud's session, Nature Based Learning @Clubhouse Farm would complement this session.

Target Audience: K-3
